How to become an ALPLA apprentice

Steps to apply

Discover

After browsing our website, you can learn more about how the apprenticeship works through ICATT - our partner for facilitating this program. Iowa City high school counselors and CTE teachers should be aware of our program as a next step for graduates ready to get their career going. Please inquire with them as well!

Shadow

If you’re still curious about the manufacturing industry or what this program entails, feel free to schedule a shadow visit with our Iowa team! During your visit, you can view our production process, learn more about our company and equipment and get a better sense of whether this apprenticeship is the right career move for you. This step in the process is totally optional.

Application

So, you got a taste of life with us, and you liked it so much that you’d like to be part of our Family of Pioneers. We are happy about that. To apply, you must complete the apprentice application form curated by ICATT – our program partner and facilitator– to be considered! To start as an apprentice with ALPLA, you must also be placed into the AAS degree program at Kirkwood Community College. To do so, complete Kirkwood’s application and placement steps. These steps must be taken before you can accept our apprenticeship offer. However, even while your college application may be in process, you can still apply!

Screening

ICATT will verify your placement to Kirkwood Community College and determine if you’re a great fit for us at ALPLA.

Interview

If ICATT approves your application, you will be invited to interview with us. Together, we will discuss in detail what your program will look like and get to know you better. In this context, all open questions can be clarified.

Offer

If you are one of our future apprentices, you will receive your acceptance letter before the start of the program. You’ll get an offer with a big congratulations and details about pay and benefits!

Onboarding – Welcome to ALPLA

There’s nothing like a grand welcome, so on your first day, you’ll meet your trainer, learn about our policies, say hello to your classmates and get rolling on Everything ALPLA!
